There were a number of things I was supposed to do today, not the least of which was the intended purchase of a new laptop. However, not even the temptation of a shiny new computer managed to drag me away from The God of the Hive. I'd read the first 10 or so chapters immediately when the book arrived on Tuesday, and then put it down with the intention to wait for a nice calm day with no other plans to dedicate entirely to the book. Not so much. Well, I did dedicate my entire day to the book, but at the cost of several other errands going unfinished. Alas, perhaps tomorrow.

A few thoughts on the book under here - some spoilers )

So [livejournal.com profile] lore_85 made a really inspiring list with her favourite lesbian couples, and I just had to make one of my own.

Finished the book a while ago, and finally finished the write-up. Here goes, The Language of Bees, by Laurie R. King.

It didn't even come to 1000 words... huh. Random ramblings. )

Locked Rooms

Having been stubbornly refusing to finish this marvellous piece of writing until I could be certain that I would be given sufficient amount of time to myself in order to process it at the speed I found suitable, it has taken me over a week since I last put it down until I opened it again this very afternoon [read: last Friday, as it has taken me another few days to finish this argumentatively pointless write-up]. I returned to my house around 5pm to find my father quietly working in the yard, and my mother and sister away, I believe, to go for a swim, as the weather, which had earlier been cold and dreary for a July morning, in the afternoon allowed for bright sunshine and mild winds. Assuring myself that I would not be disturbed for some time I brought blanket, pillow, refreshments and above-mentioned book to a sheltered area behind the house where I could still hear my father and my neighbours, but would not be instantly spotted through the summer-thick foliage surrounding me. My mind being soothed into focus by the semi-shade provided by the birch leaves above me I settled in for an ample three and a half hours so that at a leisurely pace enjoy the one hundred and forty-four pages remaining me.

Anyway.

On to the book. Spoilers! (Also spoilers for a certain Scarpetta series plot twist that occurs in Blow Fly.) )

Finally, for you [livejournal.com profile] xclairedelune ('cause really, I don't think anyone else cares :P ), my comments on Califia's Daughters. Enjoy! (or not... I warn you now, it's much long and pointless stuff in there.)

Califia's Daughters - spoilers, pointless comments, analysys, review, and more (but mostly issues) - 1733 words )
