Is it just me or is this show getting straighter by the episode?? I mean, sure, for a bit there it was cute how they were all teasing Lindsay about her non-existent love life, but come on! It's been 4 episodes now! Give it a rest. I'm surprised the woman hasn't tossed the lot of you into the bay!

Speaking of the bay, this is totally not the San Francisco I've imagined through Kate Martinelli's eyes. It's too bright, and too LA-like. Anyone here who has actually been to SF? Is it like that. And I was disappointed in the Hall of Justice, too.

She's such an über character, is Lindsay Boxer. 'Cept for the name. No über-writer worth her name would name her 'tall, dark, and glaring' *Lindsay*. Not that there's anything wrong with the name, it's just that it brings to mind, you know, junkie anorexic paparazzi starlets... And what kind of a last name is 'Boxer'? But other than that, she's tall, she's dark, she's broody, she glares, she has a tendency to play 'bad cop', she's 'one of the guys', she has a wicked sense of humour, and a brilliant smile she bestows upon those worthy enough. Basically, she could have stepped right out of any cop-über story I've ever read (and I've read PLENTY). If it wasn't for that straight thing. But considering how she's totally not into Tom any longer (really, please, please), and seems uninterested in going on new dates (please please keep that up), there's plenty of room to make her gay (please please please). She could start by hanging out with women who aren't little girls. I like the medical examiner, but the other two, whatever. Kids. (Or is that just me projecting the fact that I'm getting to an age where I should be doing something with my life and I haven't, so therefore it bothers me to see people who have? Scary thought...)

I'm pretty sure I had other thoughts about the episode as well, but now all I remember is this:

Quote of the Episode:
Lindsay: "You are not gonna shoot her, or anybody else today. You see? I was counting. I do this for a living, and I gotta tell you, I hate amateurs."

Followed by Lindsay tackling the guy into the pond, hand-cuffing him under water, and looking a delicious cross between pissed off and smug about it. I didn't notice much of this until the second time I watched the scene, though, the first time I was too distracted by the wet!Angie Harmon thing going on... yum.

All in all, I don't know how much longer I'll have the energy to stick with this show. If they keep up the stupid banter, and all the pestering her about getting a boyfriend, I'm gonna be out of here pretty soon. Which is a shame, Angie Harmon is really hot, and a great actress with comedic streak that I kinda missed throughout her Law & Order years.

Anyone know where I might be able to find Baywatch Nights?

This show steps on possibly every nerve I have about women in television. Exactly what is so wrong with a strong female character? Not necessarily gay (but that would be tons of awesome) but just strong? They have a great opportunity here, with four lead female characters.

I can see the little journalist girl not being overtly strong. I mean, new to the crime beat and all, she'd be a little weirded out by the stuff these girls see every day right? Dead bodies aren't exactly something the average journalist would see daily.

But the DA and the coroner, by their very role and nature should be much stronger than they are. I like that the coroner isn't all squicked (like the DA) about the stuff they see. But somehow, I just think she should be understanding of Lindsay's being single. I mean, how do you find a person to share the things these girls see with? Your average guy would run for the hills right away.

I am sooooooo tired of all the babbling about Lindsay's personal life. So what if she's not dating. It's not the end of the world as these girls seem to think it is. High stress job, virtually no personal time ... not good for relationships. For the most part, they seem to handle the personal lives of Jill and Claire much more decently. A mention here or there, and sometimes it's too much, but not nearly as too much as it with Lindsay. I mean really, asking for a date over a dead body? Seriously, that was just reallly stupid.

I remember two things from this episode with any kind of significance. The almost sweet but totally absurd ending with Lindsay going to the retirement community to take the old lady out for dinner. She was wearing a skirt and all, all for that lady who thought Lindsay was her daughter. So ridiculous.

And Angie Harmon tackling and handcuffing the guy underwater? Oh my, my, my. So freakin' hot it's unbelievable.

I know! You're so absolutely right (and I felt all that, but you just put it all in words for me, thank you).

Have you been watching Sarah & Lori over at AfterEllen talking about this show? The original pilot apparently had NONE of these things that are currently driving us all nuts. The women were strong and confident and cool and didn't spend all their time being whiny and childish and basically enforcing the idea that women can't possibly lead a good life without a man. Yuck.

And you're right, of course, that she doesn't have to be gay at all to be a strong woman, but wouldn't that be so sweet? One can always dream...

And it's not like TV doesn't know how to do strong women, L&O have managed that for years (and none of them have been lesbians, they have a rather sucky track record with lesbian recurring characters), their female cops and DAs and such are strong and competent, and Angie has to know how silly this all is... because it could still retain the comedic element without losing the integrity of grown-up women being allowed to not act like silly teenagers.

Wah! Rant! Stupid stupid TV people!
