Ok, so I will admit that walking home in the middle of the night through the forest, with everything silent and a gentle snow fall, and newly fallen snow soft under my feet is utterly charming. I even had the obnoxiously picturesque experience of seeing a roe deer cross my path not 15 meters in front of me. Another positive aspect to winter is that the street-lights actually work. I remember back in August when it was just starting to get dark at night, every 3rd light or so would be broken because they hadn't been used for 3 months. Now I saw only one single broken light during the entire walk home.

M&G and I watched Troy tonight. It did not go well. From my mocking comment at the opening monologue, and G's little disclaimer 'I never said it was a good movie!' it just kept getting worse. It was the most mockable movie I've seen in a very long time. Maybe ever. Not that it was very high-class mocking going on. We quickly established that 'cousin' had to mean lover, and then it was mostly general mocking of their stupidity, and depictions of Brad Pitt raping various other characters, ending with a wailing mock-monologue from G on how 'my mother never told me rape was a bad thing!'. We were all very disappointed that Brad Pitt was indeed just human, and not invulnerable with an Akilles heel, we mocked the CGI boats, we mocked Legolas for being a sissy, Brad Pitt for fighting like a girl, Hector for being so damn noble, the Trojan Horse for being ugly, the dialogue for being crap, the fat bearded men in armor for being, well, fat bearded men in armor, and Brad Pitt for being Brad Pitt (also; it doesn't help that his last name is a crude word for 'penis' in Swedish.).
All that said, it was a pretty damn impressive movie. Just very mockable. I read this wonderful parody of the movie, once, somewhere on LJ, I think. There isn't anyone on my flist who would happen to know of it and where I can find it?

Then I watched Cagney & Lacey again... I know I said I wouldn't. What is it with cop shows in NYC that make them so damn fractured? NYPD Blue is the same way, they always sound so strained, and the dialogue is quick, fractured and they all always sound ready to jump out of their skin. Anyway; Chris is kinda pretty, Mary Beth is annoying, but they smiled at each other and hugged at the end of tonight's ep, so there's definitely a pairing there. We'll see what comes of it.

Off to celebrate my aunt's birthday this weekend. I'll be checking in, but I won't be online much. C ya!

Sounds absolutely ethereal....your word pictures are just beautiful.

the silent and gentle snow conjur up images from my childhood when we would wake up in the morning to snow which had fallen silently all night...a wonderful memory..

You know, it really was wonderful. Doesn't happen often, but when it's just cold enough for the snow to stay, and everything is soft and still, I really do enjoy it.

I used to live further south in Sweden, where snow is something that happens just a few times every winter. I remember when I was little and would wake up to snow that had fallen unexpectedly during the night, there was something magical about it.
