So, I don't honestly know much about the Writers' Strike. I've been avoiding talking about it because I don't know anything about it. I mean, I know what's in the papers and online, and I've read blog-posts, and stuff, but I have no way to judge if their demands are reasonable. They certainly seem that way (Go writers! Come one, TPTB, just give them what they want.) but in all honesty, I wouldn't know. (Most of my extended family, including me, work in public education, I don't know the first thing about the private sector, and also, I'm not even American.)

What I'm getting at is that I have no way of judging if Ellen is doing the wrong thing by working or not. (Although, that thing the production company in charge of her show said about it being unfair to compare her to late-night network shows when she's a syndicated daytime show while ignoring all the other syndicated daytime shows that are working makes a bit of sense to me. But maybe I don't have all the facts.) What I do know is that I don't like when drama takes over my fandoms.

The reason I got into Ellen in the first place last year was because I desperately needed a safe fandom. The Queen obsession was lots of fun, their music is certainly awesome, but ultimately? Boy!crushes freak me out. And I was working more than usual, and had lots of new choir responsibilities (and choir totally = drama) so I needed a fandom that wouldn't routinely make me cry (Without a Trace, Law & Order: SVU), gross me out (CSI), draw humour from putting my favourite characters in embarrassing and humiliating situations (Weeds, 30 Rock (although I so totally got over it after the Gretchen episode of 30 Rock!)), go crazy on me (Desperate Housewives), or kill off my favourite characters and break up my favourite couples (The L Word, Serenity), but would just be happy and drama-free, where I wouldn't go crazy and confused if I missed the occasional episode.

Ellen was perfect. A seemingly happy fandom that I've been familiar with for a long time (kinda like transitioning from good friends to lovers), featuring a cool lesbian who stands up for who she is. Fandom comes complete with several hot lesbians (Ellen, Portia, Alex, Anne), lots of material (sitcoms, stand-up, books, and a new show every day), fanbase that is mostly happy and drama-free, and an extended fandom of awesome stuff (Alex on The L Word, Portia on Arrested Development and Ally McBeal and now Nip/Tuck, Anne on Men In Trees). Now, fandom has had it's fair share of drama in the past, what with coming out (totally supported her in that one), and break-ups (it's her private life, leave it alone!), and so on, but it seemed to have stabilized and gotten to a point where it could easily be used as 'safe fandom'. (The only downside, no fanfic. I never thought I could survive in a fandom that didn't have fanfic. But I guess that's what the tabloids are for.)

However, between Iggygate and Ellen getting attacked all over the place over the Strike, it's not exactly happy and drama free at the moment. Fanbase is upset and worried, the episodes are less happy. I have no idea if Ellen is a money-hungry bitch who's only working because it's sweeps, or if she's working because she's afraid of being sued, or just cares about all the other people who work for her who'd lose their jobs if she's not there, or what, I just want my fandoms drama free. And yeah, that's callous and selfish of me, I suppose. But I don't mind that the writers are striking, get them a better deal, come on! I don't mind re-runs until they get it! I'd be just as happy if she wasn't working, and there would be no drama, but she chose to work, dammit, and now there's drama. Stop working! Or stop striking! Or whatever. From what I hear, she doesn't do monologues, and then she improvs randomly for 10 minutes until they can go to interviews. How's that doing the writers' jobs? (Of course my first instinct is to think she's right, she's my main obsession after all, right until proven otherwise.)

Basically, just give the writers what they want, so everyone can go back to work and be happy, and leave my fandoms drama free. I'm starting to think M is right, never ever get into a fandom that isn't finished. Only watch TV shows on DVD after they've ended, only read book series after the last one is written. Boring, yes, but totally less drama.

Women's Murder Club:

WTF??? Seriously, Lindsay, don't make out with your ex-husband!!!! Gawd. Tom, get the hell out of there, and leave her alone.

And of course she and Tom had a miscarriage 4 years ago. Didn't see that coming a mile away. How much do you wanna bet it's never gonna get mentioned again, and was only used for drama-value in this one episode? *sigh*

Also, what happened to that couple that was supposed to be adopting the child??? They're turned away crying a few scenes earlier, and then suddenly the grandparents show and and everything is smiles and roses?? In this case the grandparents seemed like good people (but how old were they?), and I do believe that when there are two equally good options, being a blood relative should get precedence, but still. They could at least have helped the couple out with someone who could help them adopt legally. Bah.

Stupid stupid show, why do I put up with you? Is Angie Harmon really worth it??

Between Ellen and AfterEllen my tolerance for non-lesbian fandoms has significantly shrunk. Like seriously. I'm like WTF? She's kissing a dude? Why? (Oh yes, being a minority has definitely made us lesbians (me) so tolerant of those not like us (me)...)
