fallon_ash: (christina - not listening)
But first, a SHOUT-OUT to the interview my icon is from, if there are any Christina fans around here who haven't seen it. It's hilarious. Watch it NOW.

So I already did this, but then fyca gave me a J, and I figured I'd do it again. Naturally, while trying to think of characters beginning with J, I kept coming up with characters for P that I'd forgotten the last time around. So here we go again with two sets of 5 characters.

1. Comment on this post.
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Think of 5 fictional characters and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ.

Julie McCoy - Loveboat

Ah, Julie. When I was 11, or so, I would rush home from school every day in hopes of making it in time for Loveboat, and the ever so lovely Julie McCoy. She was one of my first crushes, long before I knew what they were, other than the fact that I didn't much care about any of the other characters, or the storylines, but I would melt whenever Julie had any scenes. For a few sweet months, every afternoon, it was Julie and me on the ocean, and I don't actually remember much else except that giddy feeling that went with it. Ah, nostalgia...

Jessie Forbes - Innocent Hearts / Promising Hearts by Radclyffe
Radclyffe is one of my favourite authors, and I love pretty much every book and fanfic she's ever written, with two exceptions. Innocent Hearts and Promising Hearts. I've read them, because it's Radclyffe, but I've only read them once each, and I don't much care about reading them again. I don't like period lesbian romances. At all. Or period pieces in general much. They make me so damn depressed. Isn't it enough how women and lesbians are harassed and oppressed in the society of today, for my leisure I have no desire whatsoever to immerse myself in world where the males of society dictated everything women did, and it was perfectly acceptable, and in order to break those patterns one had to find a life outside society with no option of living openly. I HATE it. Not even Radclyffe's writing can make that bearable for me.
That said, Jessie Forbes is an awesome character. She's strong, and she takes care of herself and her men, and she kicks ass. That my post-constructed image of her in my head reminds me a lot of Kim from Better than Chocolate is purely a coincidence.

Julian Kirrin - Famous Five series
These books gave me some *serious* cases of gender confusion when I was little. At least they explained the George/Georgina thing, but how was I to know that Julian was a boy's name?? The closest name I knew of was Julia, which was most certainly a girl's name. (Same with their cook, Joan, the closest name I could think of was Johan, which was most certainly a boy's name.) Julian was the oldest, and the one who got to decide, and he never failed to piss me off with his protective treatment of the girls. Anne, sure, she was scared of stuff, but every time George fumed, I fumed right along with her. But he was a good guy, and he took his responsibility for his younger siblings/cousin most seriously, and he was smart, and the books are still good for comfort reads.

Paulie - The Last Supper

Ah, Paulie. The Last Supper is easily one of my favourite Annabeth movies, I even quite like the movie itself. She starts out so sweet and innocent, and then quickly spirals out of control. It's been way too long since I've seen it, but I remember the tomatoes, and the cute cop, and it introducing me to Sam Phillips music, which is awesome.

Paula Stark - Honor series
One of my favourite Radclyffe characters out of all her books. Paula reminds me a lot of Kate Martinelli, both in appearance, but also in character, how they approach everything with single-minded dedication, how they take their job very seriously. They don't strive to climb the career ladders, they just strive to do the best job possible. They're completely devoted to their partners, and can be dense when it comes to subtlety. Paula is a damn good secret service agent who wants to be like Cameron Roberts when she grows up, and in the process doesn't quite realize to value her own quiet unwavering strength and inner calm next to Cam's burning passion under a frosty exterior. (Radclyffe also brings out questionable adjective use in my writing.)

Christina's set:

Jo - Ladycops/3Way

Ah, Jo. The lady who started this whole Christina thing. Given that Jo's total screen time that I've seen is something like 5 minutes I don't really know much about her. She's a seasoned cop with a thing for gorgeous femmes and a penchant for spouting clichés such as 'That was the cop talking, not the woman behind the badge'. I guess she's loosely based on Nora from Nikki & Nora, but the similarities stop somewhere after 'blonde kick-ass cop'... However, I love cop shows, I love clichés, I love shows that play up their camp factor, and Ladycops (in all its 5 minutes of glory - where are those DVDs with the full episode??) is so right up my alley it's ridiculous.

Jenny Moylan - CSI: Miami

I saw this episode years ago, but apparently Jenny didn't make enough of an impression on me that I even mentioned her in my review of it (back when I actually wrote recaps/reviews of every single CSI: Miami ep). But I remembered watching it, and recognizing her without knowing from where, and being a bit freaked out once I looked her up and realized it was the hot butch chick from Better than Chocolate. Freaked out in the sense that 'omg she looks so femme, that's totally scary'. Jenny has 2 scenes, both with (W)Horatio, and she plays the publicist of some closeted action hero dude. She's dedicated her career to action hero dude's career, and if I remember correctly there's a moment where she looks amused at the suggestion that there is something between them, which in my book translates to 'totally gay'.

Jessica Wilson - PSI Factor

Regardless of whatever shortcomings this show in general has, this in one of my favourite among Christina's performances. Jessie has spent her entire life being pushed around and controlled by her father who approaches life with a set of very questionable morals, and she's pushed very close to the edge. She's working as head of research for her father's oil-searching company, and everything comes to a head when they're locked down due to a strange disease that kills people within seconds. Jessie is desperate, heart-broken, and a little bit crazy, and it's awesome.

Jody Nolan - First Wave

Yay evil! Not only is Christina frickin' adorable in her forest ranger outfit, she's also a pretty kick-ass character. Takes everything in stride, hikes around the woods on her own in nice boots, handles shot-guns with ease. Oh, and is an alien who has infiltrated the human society in order to kill those who oppose the alien take-over, and she dissolves into green goo when she's killed. I honestly didn't see the alien twist coming and all, and it pleases me that there still are TV-shows that can surprise me.

Jeanne d'Arc - Forever Knight

Much like Vicki was an INTENSE young police officer, Christina appears to have been an INTENSE young actress (and older articles and interviews back this assumption up). She was about 20 when she did this, and she's lovely as an INTENSE young Jeanne d'Arc. I wonder a little bit about her voice, though. It's got a strange French accent that doesn't quite sound like Christina to the point where I wonder if they looped someone else's voice over her scenes, but it's very well-matched even in the close-ups. I don't know.
